Sailfin Tetra (Crenuchus Spilurus)

The Sailfin Tetra, scientifically known as Crenuchus spilurus, is a relatively small and peaceful freshwater fish that can make a great addition to a community aquarium. 

1. Temperature: They thrive in tropical temperatures ranging from 72 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit (22 to 26 degrees Celsius).

2. Minimum Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended to provide enough swimming space and to accommodate a small group of Sailfin Tetras.

Feeding Habits: Sailfin Tetras are omnivores. They accept a variety of foods including high-quality flakes, pellets, live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Offering a varied diet contributes to their overall health and coloration.

Habitat Preference: They are native to South America, particularly in the Amazon River basin. In the aquarium, they appreciate a well-planted tank with open swimming areas.

Water pH Level: Ideally, maintain a slightly acidic to neutral pH level between 6.0 and 7.5.

Behavior: Sailfin Tetras are generally peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive fish species. They may display some territorial behavior, especially during breeding.

Sailfin Tetras are known to form loose schools in the wild, and they feel more secure when kept in groups of their own kind. A group of at least six individuals is recommended to prevent stress and encourage natural behavior.

They occupy the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. They are active swimmers and appreciate open spaces for swimming.

Color: The Sailfin Tetra has a sleek and elongated body with striking colors. Males often have more vibrant colors, especially during the breeding season. The fins, especially the dorsal fin, have an impressive sail-like extension, which is the characteristic feature that gives them their name.

Other Details: Provide a well-filtered aquarium with moderate water flow. Regular water changes are essential to maintain good water quality. They may exhibit more intense colors and natural behaviors when provided with a varied and balanced diet.
