Description

Red Cap Oranda is a stunning and popular variety of fancy goldfish, known for its distinctive red "wen" (head growth) and elegant white or silver body. 


Appearance & Size

  • Wen (Head Growth): Bright red or orange, resembling a cap.
  • Body: Typically white or silver, rounded and egg-shaped.
  • Fins: Long, flowing fins that add to their graceful swimming style.
  • Size: Grows up to 6–8 inches in length 

Tank Setup & Habitat

  • Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons for one fish; larger if keeping multiples 
  • Water Temperature: 65–75°F (18–24°C).
  • pH Range: 6.8–8.0, slightly alkaline preferred.
  • Substrate: Smooth sand or rounded gravel to protect delicate fins and wen.
  • Lighting: 8–12 hours of light daily; use a timer for consistency.
  • Filtration: Strong filtration recommended due to high bioload; over-filtering is ideal 

Plants & Decorations

  • Live Plants: Hardy species like Java Fern, Anubias, and Marimo Moss Balls.
  • Floating Plants: Duckweed and dwarf water lettuce help with water quality.
  • Decorations: Avoid sharp edges; secure all items to prevent injury 

Diet & Feeding

  • Type: Omnivorous.
  • Staple Foods: High-quality goldfish pellets or flakes.
