Origin: Northern South America (Guyana, Suriname, Venezuela, Colombia)

Natural Habitat

  • Shallow forest streams and flooded areas
  • Soft, acidic, tannin‑stained water
  • Sandy or muddy bottoms with leaf litter
  • Slow to moderate flow

Adult Size

  • Male: up to 7–8 cm (≈3 in)
  • Female: 5–6 cm (≈2–2.5 in)

Temperament

  • Generally peaceful for a cichlid
  • Territorial when breeding, especially females
  • Suitable for calm community tanks with space and cover
