These small cichlids grow to about 1.5″ long, and as such Neolamprologus multifasciatus (the shell dweller) is one of the world’s smallest cichlids. When startled they dart into their shells, cautiously peeking out to see if the danger has passed. When comfortable, you’ll find them digging in the sand, moving shells around, and occasionally bickering with each other.
