Description
Description
Limnophila sessiliflora, also known as Ambulia, is a bushy and bright green aquatic plant native to clear water environments in South East Asia. Here’s a care guide for this lovely plant:
Supplied in pre-pack.
-
Lighting Requirements:
- Ambulia can grow in low to medium lighting conditions. Unlike Cabomba, it doesn’t have high light requirements.
- However, be aware that low lighting may lead to thin growth. Experiment to find the best lighting levels for your specific aquarium setup.
-
Growth Rate and Trimming:
- This plant is fast-growing and may surprise you with its growth.
- Frequent trimming is necessary to keep it looking its best. Regular pruning helps maintain its bushy appearance.
- Supplemental CO2 injection is beneficial for encouraging thick and healthy growth.
-
Planting and Nutrition:
- Place Limnophila sessiliflora on a substrate deep enough to anchor the plants. In some cases, small plant weights may be needed.
- It draws most of its nutrients from the surrounding water, so use a liquid fertilizer containing both macronutrients and micronutrients.
- Applying fertilizer after planting can help it thrive.
-
Placement in the Aquarium:
- Due to its bushy appearance, Ambulia is often seen in tank backgrounds.
- However, because of its high growth rate, it can be harder to maintain there. Consider your tank size and configuration.
- Ambulia tends to brown on its lower leaves, especially if the stems grow more than 9 inches. This is a natural feature of the plant.
-
Fun Fact: Ambulia looks similar to Cabomba but is easier to maintain.
Remember, while Ambulia is easy to care for, it can appear “leggy” without proper water nutrients or enough light. So, ensure you provide the right conditions for this vibrant aquatic plant! 🌿🌱
