Golden Hatchet Fish (Carnegiella strigata) 2.5cm
Description
Description
Golden Hatchet Fish is a peaceful, surface-dwelling schooling species prized for its unique hatchet-shaped body, shimmering golden coloration, and fascinating ability to glide above the water when startled. Native to the slow-moving streams and tributaries of the Amazon Basin, these elegant fish add movement and character to the upper levels of any well-maintained community aquarium.
Golden Hatchets thrive in groups and display their best colors and natural behaviors when kept in schools of six or more. Their gentle temperament makes them excellent companions for small tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, Corydoras, and other peaceful tropical species.

Aquarium Requirements
These fish prefer a calm aquarium with subdued lighting, floating plants, and plenty of open swimming space near the surface. Because hatchetfish are excellent jumpers, a tightly fitting lid is essential. Dark substrates, driftwood, and tannin-rich water help replicate their natural habitat and bring out their beautiful golden tones.
Compatibility
Golden Hatchet Fish are ideal for peaceful community aquariums and coexist well with:
- Tetras
- Rasboras
- Corydoras
- Apistogramma species
- Small peaceful gouramis
