Gold Ring Danio (Danio tinwini)—a small, active, and visually striking species that’s perfect for nano and community aquariums:

Origin:
Native to northern Myanmar, particularly in slow-moving, shallow streams with dense vegetation.

Size:
Up to 3.5 cm (1.4 inches)

Lifespan:
3–5 years with proper care

Temperament:
Peaceful and social; ideal for small community tanks

Tank Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 10 gallons
  • Temperature: 20–26°C (68–79°F)
  • pH: 6.5–7.5
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
  • Aquascape: Planted tank with open swimming space, gentle flow, and subdued lighting

Diet:
Omnivorous – accepts micro pellets, flakes, and frozen/live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms

Behavior:

  • Shoaling species – best kept in groups of 6 or more
  • Active swimmers, mostly mid-to-upper tank levels
  • Peaceful and compatible with other small, non-aggressive fish

Breeding:

  • Egg scatterers; breeding possible in species-only tanks
  • Use spawning mops or fine-leaved plants
  • Adults should be removed post-spawning to prevent egg predation

Appearance:

  • Pale golden body with distinct black spots and subtle iridescent rings
  • Fins may show hints of yellow or orange
  • Males are typically slimmer and more colorful than females
