Betta coccina, also known as the Scarlet Betta, is a fascinating species of wild betta fish.

Origin: They are native to Indonesia and Malaysia, specifically found in peat swamp forests and associated streams
Appearance: They are known for their striking red coloration, which is where they get their name "coccina," meaning scarlet in Latin
Size: These fish typically grow to about 2.5 inches in length
Tank Requirements: They thrive in small tanks, with a minimum size of 5 gallons. They prefer dim lighting and a well-decorated tank with plenty of hiding spots
Temperament: While they are less aggressive than the more commonly known Betta splendens, they can still show some territorial behavior. It's best to keep them in pairs or small groups with a proper male-to-female ratio
Care Level: They are considered beginner-friendly and can live for 3-5 years with proper care
