Description
Description
Corydoras arcuatus, commonly known as Skunk Corydoras or Bandit Corydoras, is a species of freshwater tropical fish belonging to the Corydoras genus, which is a part of the Callichthyidae family.
-
Temperature: They thrive in temperatures ranging from 72°F to 79°F (22°C to 26°C). It's essential to maintain a stable temperature in their tank.
-
Minimum Tank Size: For a small group of Corydoras arcuatus, a tank of at least 20 gallons (75 liters) is recommended.
Feeding habits: Skunk Corydoras are omnivores, and their diet primarily consists of sinking pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small invertebrates. They are bottom feeders, so sinking foods are more suitable for them.
Habitat Preference: They prefer well-planted tanks with soft, sandy substrates. These fish appreciate hiding spots, such as caves or driftwood, and they are known to spend much of their time foraging at the tank's bottom.
Water pH Level: Corydoras arcuatus prefers slightly acidic to neutral water conditions. A pH range between 6.0 and 7.5 is suitable.
Behavior: These fish are generally peaceful and sociable, and they do well in groups of their own species or with other peaceful tankmates. They are known to be active scavengers, constantly searching for food at the bottom of the tank.
Schooling: Skunk Corydoras are schooling fish, so it's recommended to keep them in groups of at least six individuals. Being in a group makes them feel more secure and comfortable.
Solitary or Bottom-Dweller: They are bottom-dwellers, spending most of their time near the tank's substrate.
Color and Other Details: Corydoras arcuatus is known for its distinctive appearance. They have a silver body with a black stripe that runs horizontally from their snout to their caudal fin, resembling a skunk's coloration, hence their common name. Additionally, they have an arched (arcuatus) appearance due to their body shape. These fish can grow up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length.
Remember that maintaining good water quality is essential for the health of Corydoras arcuatus. Regular water changes and a well-cycled tank are crucial for their well-being.
