Description

Bedotia madagascariensis, commonly known as the Madagascar Rainbowfish, is a vibrant and fascinating species native to Madagascar.

  • Size: It can grow up to 10 cm (4 inches) in length
  • Habitat: Found in clear, flowing streams and rivers, often shaded by riparian vegetation. It prefers habitats with soft, tannin-stained water.
  • Water Parameters: Requires soft, slightly acidic water with a pH of 6.0-7.5 and a temperature range of 22-26°C 
  • Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on small insects, crustaceans, and plant matter
  • Behavior: Peaceful and social, best kept in groups. They are known for their striking coloration, especially the males

These fish are relatively undemanding but thrive in well-maintained aquariums with good water quality and plenty of plants and hiding spots. They are a popular choice for aquarists due to their beauty and interesting behavior.
