Bleeding Heart Tetra (Hyphessobrycon erythrostigma)

Description

Appearance: The bleeding-heart tetra boasts a slender, silver body adorned with a vibrant red spot on each side, reminiscent of a bleeding heart. This striking feature sets it apart from other tetra species, adding a splash of color and elegance to any aquarium.

Behavior: These tetras are social creatures that thrive in the company of their own kind. They exhibit schooling behavior, so it's best to keep them in groups of at least six individuals to ensure their well-being and happiness. Despite their beauty, bleeding heart tetras are peaceful and get along well with a variety of tankmates, making them an excellent addition to community aquariums.

Habitat and Care: In their natural habitat, bleeding heart tetras inhabit slow-moving streams and tributaries with plenty of vegetation. When kept in captivity, they prefer well-planted tanks with ample hiding spots and subdued lighting. They are not particularly demanding in terms of water conditions but thrive in slightly acidic to neutral water with temperatures ranging from 72-79°F (22-26°C).

Diet: These tetras are omnivores and will readily accept a variety of foods, including high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. Providing a balanced diet will help maintain their health and vibrant coloration.
