Apistogramma Macmasteri 'Tame' 2-4cm

Description

Apistogramma genus, commonly known as "apistos," includes a variety of dwarf cichlids that are popular in the aquarium hobby due to their vibrant colors and interesting behaviors. One notable species is the Apistogramma macmasteri 'Tame', which is found in blackwater creeks and shallow waters around the Rio Arauca in Colombia.

Key Characteristics:

Size: Males can grow up to 3-3.5 inches (8-9 cm), while females are slightly smaller, around 2-2.5 inches (5-6 cm)

Water Conditions: They thrive in water temperatures between 76-82°F (24-28°C) and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.2

Diet: These fish are carnivores and micropredators, best fed small frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Behavior: Apistogrammas are known for their inquisitive nature and will often interact with their owners. They can be territorial, especially during breeding

Habitat: In their natural habitat, Apistogrammas prefer environments with plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, dense foliage, and submerged roots. A fine sand substrate is ideal as they enjoy sifting through it.

Care Tips:

Tank Size: A single or pair of Apistogrammas can be kept in a 20-gallon tank or larger. For breeding, a 15-gallon tank can suffice

Water Quality: Regular water changes and good filtration are crucial to maintain water quality and keep these fish healthy

Compatibility:While they are semi-aggressive, Apistogrammas generally do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish. Providing plenty of hiding spots can help minimize aggression.
