Galaxy Rasbora, also known as the Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus), is a stunning and popular freshwater fish among aquarists.
Origin:
Discovered in 2006 in small, vegetated ponds in Myanmar (Burma), particularly around Hopong near Inle Lake.
Size:
Up to 2.5 cm (1 inch)
Lifespan:
3–5 years with proper care
Temperament:
Peaceful, ideal for nano and community tanks
Tank Requirements:
- Minimum tank size: 10 gallons
- Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
- pH: 6.5–7.5
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
- Aquascape: Heavily planted tanks with hiding spots and subdued lighting
Diet:
Omnivorous – accepts high-quality micro pellets, crushed flakes, frozen or live foods like daphnia and brine shrimp.
Behavior:
- Shoaling species – best kept in groups of 6 or more
- Males display vibrant colors and courtship behavior
- Can be shy if kept alone or in sparse tanks
Breeding:
- Egg scatterers; breeding is possible in species-only tanks
- Provide fine-leaved plants or spawning mops
- Remove adults post-spawning to prevent egg predation
