Madagascar Rainbowfish (Bedotia madagascariensis) is a vibrant, peaceful freshwater species native to the rivers and streams of eastern Madagascar. It’s a favorite among aquarists for its shimmering colors, active behavior, and shoaling nature.
Description
- Appearance: Slender body with shimmering silver scales and a subtle yellowish-brown base. Males display vibrant hues of red, orange, and blue, with black-edged fins and a dark lateral stripe. Females are more subdued in color and rounder in shape
- Size: Typically 3–6 inches (7–15 cm) in captivity
- Lifespan: 3–5 years on average, but can reach up to 8 years with optimal care
