Description

One-Lined Pencilfish (Nannostomus unifasciatus): Small freshwater fish belonging to the characin family.

  1. Temperature: Keep them in a tank with a temperature range of 73°F to 82°F (23°C to 28°C) for optimal health.

  2. Minimum Size Tank: Provide a tank with a minimum size of 10 gallons (38 liters) to accommodate their small size and schooling behavior.

Feeding Habits: One-Lined Pencilfish are omnivores and accept a diet of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia.

Habitat Preference: Mimic their natural habitat with dense vegetation, floating plants, and subdued lighting. They appreciate a well-planted tank with open swimming spaces.

Water pH Level: Maintain a slightly acidic to neutral pH level between 6.0 and 7.0 to replicate their native environment.

Behavior: These pencilfish are known for their peaceful nature and schooling behavior. They feel more secure when kept in groups of six or more.

One-Lined Pencilfish are social and prefer to be kept in schools. A group setup enhances their natural schooling behavior.

They are not solitary but rather thrive in the company of their own kind. Active during the day, they occupy the mid to upper levels of the aquarium.

Color and Other Details: Characterized by a slender, elongated body, One-Lined Pencilfish are silver with a distinct single dark stripe running horizontally along their sides. This stripe adds visual interest to their appearance.
