Description


The Denison Golden Barb, reclassified from puntius denisonii the golden version of the red lined torpedo is extremely sought after and very hard to find. 

  1. Appearance:

    • The Denison Barb has a slender, torpedo-shaped body covered in silvery scales.
    • It features a black horizontal stripe that runs from the gill plate to the caudal fin.
    • A brilliant red stripe runs parallel to the black stipe, extending from the tip of the nose to about mid-way through the body.
  2. Habitat:

    • Denison Barbs inhabit fast-flowing hill streams and are often found in rocky pools with thick vegetation along riverbanks.
    • They thrive in mountain streams where the temperature ranges from 15-25°C (60-77°F).
    • The ph varies between 6.8-7.8 and hardness GH 5-25, making them adaptable to various water conditions. 
  3. Aquarium Care:

    • A well-filtered aquarium with high oxygen levels is essential for Denison Barbs.
    • They are peaceful and can be mixed with most tropical community fish.
    • Keep them in a group and provide a tight-fitting lid these guys can be jumpy at times. 
  4. Feeding:

    • Denison Barbs accept a variety of foods, including flakes, granules, small pellets, and frozen foods.
    • Bloodworms, cyclops, and daphnia enhance their red coloration.
  5. Breeding:

    • Males chase ripe females around the aquarium during spawning.
    • The female scatters hundreds of eggs into vegetation or towards the substrate.
