Description
Description
Aquarium plant from tissue culture in closed cup.
A moss speciality from Brasil, 1-3 cm tall, called "Christmas tree moss'', because of its side branch structure which distinguishes it from ordinary Vesicularia dubyana and looks like fir tree branches. It is more demanding than ordinary Java moss and grows more slowly. It attaches readily to roots and stones, and as it spreads in the water it needs pruning to keep its shape attractive. See also Taxiphyllum barbieri.
Christmas moss: Christmas moss (Vesicularia montagnei) is a popular aquarium plant that is named for its resemblance to the festive decorations seen during the holiday season. It has small branching stems with tiny, round leaves that spread from them in a fan-like fashion. The leaves contrast beautifully with the green and red of Christmas lights, giving this plant its distinctive name. Christmas moss prefers pH levels of 5.5 to 7.5 and temperatures between 68-86°F (20-30°C). It also requires moderate lighting and the addition of CO2 for optimal growth. This plant should be provided with plenty of nutrients and oxygen, as well as regular pruning to keep it looking healthy and lush. Mosses like Christmas moss are beneficial to an aquarium as they provide a natural food source for fish and other aquatic creatures. Additionally, they have the ability to absorb nutrients and help regulate the aquarium's water quality. Mosses also increase biological filtration in the tank by providing additional surfaces for beneficial bacteria to colonize, helping to keep the water clean and clear. Christmas moss is a great addition to an aquarium for both aesthetic and functional purposes. Its vibrant green coloration adds visual interest, as well as providing coverage for fish that may need a place to hide or explore. This moss also helps to provide oxygen to the tank, aiding in the development of beneficial bacteria and improving water quality overall. Additionally, its floating nature keeps the aquarium floor clean and clear, making maintenance much easier for aquarists
