Ornate Tetra (Hyphessobrycon bentosi), also known as the Bentosi Tetra or False Rosy Tetra, is a captivating and sociable fish. 

Appearance

  • Coloration: Silvery salmon pinkish body with dark red markings and white tips on its fins
  • Size: Typically grows up to 5 cm (about 2 inches).

Habitat and Tank Requirements

  • Natural Habitat: Found in slow-moving creeks off the Amazon River in South America
  • Tank Size: Minimum of 15 gallons (57 liters)
  • Water Conditions: Prefers soft, acidic water but can adapt to other conditions if tank-bred. Ideal temperature range is 73-82°F (22.8-27.8°C)
  • Tank Setup: Incorporate aquatic plants, wood structures, and gentle water flow to mimic their natural environment. Adding dried leaves like Catappa leaves can help condition the water

Behavior and Compatibility

  • Schooling: Best kept in groups of six or more to showcase their schooling behavior.
  • Tank Mates: Suitable companions include small, peaceful species like Corydoras Catfish, Hatchetfish, and Dwarf Cichlids
