Description
Description
Yellow Fire shrimp:
The freshwater Neocaridina shrimp is a popular, hardy species known for being very easy to care for and lively in an aquarium. Native to East Asia, these small marine animals can be found in rivers, streams, lakes and ponds, where they feed on algae and detritus. Their popularity as aquarium inhabitants comes from their peaceful nature, vibrant colors and ability to breed easily without any special requirements. They can live in a range of water parameters and temperatures but prefer slightly acidic and neutral water that is between 68- and 78-degrees Fahrenheit.
The Neocaridina shrimp got its name from the Greek "neo" which means "new" and "Caridina", a genus of freshwater shrimp. This species is an ideal addition to any community tank, because it is small, non-aggressive and won't disturb other fish or invertebrates. They are also a great addition to the tank cleanup crew, because they graze on algae and food leftovers which helps to keep the tank clean. They also help to maintain a healthy tank by consuming debris, allowing for ample growth of beneficial bacteria in turn.
While being a great addition to any tank,t hese Neocaridina shrimp are quite fragile, so care should be taken when introducing them to new tanks or adding tankmates. As with caring for any type of artterlife, providing a suitable habitat and correct water parameters is essential for the wellbeing of the shrimps, and their tankmates. When choosing tankmates, go for peaceful species such as small fish, snails, ghost shrimp and other dwarf shrimp species.Overall, the freshwater Neocaridina shrimp can make an interesting and beautiful addition to any aquarium. They are relatively easy to care for, offer great benefits to the overall health of an aquarium, and can provide hours of entertainment when watched closely
