Anubias barteri var. barteri is a robust and versatile freshwater aquarium plant, ideal for both beginners and experienced aquarists. 


Plant Profile

  • Common Names: Broadleaf Anubias, Barteri Anubias
  • Origin: Rivers and streams of West Africa 
  • Growth Habit: Rhizome-based, slow-growing, upright structure

Size & Appearance

  • Height: 25–45 cm (10–17 inches) 
  • Leaf Shape: Broad, thick, leathery leaves
  • Color: Deep green
  • Growth Rate: Very slow; new leaves may appear every few weeks 

Care Requirements

  • Lighting: Low to moderate; avoid high light to prevent algae 
  • Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C) 
  • pH Range: 6.0–8.0 (ideal: 6.5–7.5) 
  • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
  • CO₂: Not required, but optional for faster growth
