Blue Diamond Apistogramma, also referred to as Apistogramma sp. “Pebas” or Apistogramma eremnopyge “Diamond”, is a stunning and relatively rare dwarf cichlid species originating from Peru. Here's a detailed overview of both variants commonly associated with the "Blue Diamond" name:
Apistogramma sp. “Pebas” (Blue Diamond Apisto)
- Origin: Rio Ampiyacu drainage, Peru
- Appearance: Males exhibit brilliant neon blue across the body, with orange in the fins and red on the face. Females are bright yellow-orange with similar but subtler markings.
- Size: Males up to 4 inches; females about half that size
- Behavior: Cave spawners, highly territorial during breeding
