Red Eye Golden Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) 5-6cm

Description

Red Eye Golden Angelfish is a bright, elegant colour morph of Pterophyllum scalare, known for its smooth metallic‑gold body, subtle iridescent highlights, and striking ruby‑red eyes. Its tall fins and gentle swimming behaviour make it a standout centrepiece fish in freshwater aquariums. This morph is selectively bred for clean golden coloration and deep red eyes, creating a beautiful contrast that gets even richer with age.

Care Requirements

  • Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F)
  • pH: 6.5–7.2
  • GH: 4–10
  • KH: 2–6
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (tall tanks preferred)
  • Temperament: Semi‑peaceful cichlid
  • Diet: Quality flakes/pellets, frozen foods, brine shrimp, bloodworms

Behaviour & Notes

  • Generally peaceful, but can show territorial behaviour during breeding.
  • Best kept in groups of 4–6 juveniles or as a pair when adults.
  • Slow, deliberate feeders—ensure they aren’t outcompeted in mixed communities.
  • Golden colour deepens with good nutrition and stable water parameters.

Ideal tankmates:

  • Larger, peaceful tetras
  • Rasboras
  • Corydoras
  • Peaceful dwarf cichlids
  • Gouramis

Avoid:
