Glowlight Rasbora (Trigonostigma hengeli) is a small, peaceful freshwater fish popular in the aquarium hobby due to its striking appearance and easygoing nature.

 Appearance

  • Size: Typically grows to about 2 inches (5 cm).
  • Coloration: Features a shimmering, iridescent body with a distinctive orange-gold stripe running from mid-body to the tail, resembling a glowing light—hence the name.
  • Fins: Transparent with a slight orange hue.

 Habitat & Behavior

  • Native Range: Found in Southeast Asia, particularly in Sumatra and southern Thailand.
  • Natural Habitat: Slow-moving streams and peat swamps with dense vegetation and subdued lighting.
  • Temperament: Peaceful and social; thrives in schools of 6 or more.

 Tank Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a small group.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
    • pH: 5.5–7.5
    • Soft to moderately hard water
  • Tank Setup: Heavily planted with subdued lighting and dark substrate to mimic natural conditions.

 Diet

  • Omnivorous: Accepts flakes, micro pellets, frozen or live foods like daphnia and brine shrimp.

 Breeding

  • Egg scatterers: They lay eggs among plants.
