Description
Description
Corydoras loxozonus, commonly known as the Loxozonus Corydoras, is a type of freshwater fish belonging to the Corydoras genus within the Callichthyidae family. They are a peaceful, small species of catfish that are popular in community aquariums.
-
Temperature: They thrive in water temperatures ranging from 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C). It's essential to keep the water within this range for their optimal health.
-
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum tank size of about 20 gallons is recommended for a small group of Corydoras loxozonus. These fish are known to be shoaling species and prefer being in groups.
Feeding Habits: Loxozonus Corydoras are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods. Their diet should consist of high-quality flake food, sinking pellets, and frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, or daphnia.
Habitat Preference: In their natural habitat, these fish are found in slow-moving streams and rivers with sandy or fine-gravel substrate. Providing a similar environment in the aquarium with plants, rocks, and driftwood is ideal. They appreciate hiding spots and planted areas.
Water pH Level: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions, with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5.
Behavior: Loxozonus Corydoras are peaceful and social fish. They are active bottom dwellers and are known for their habit of constantly sifting through the substrate in search of food. They are generally active during the night and may hide during the day.
Schooling: These fish are shoaling species and should ideally be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals. They feel more secure and exhibit natural behaviors when kept in the company of their own kind.
Color and Other Details: Corydoras loxozonus typically display a light brown to beige body color with a horizontal black stripe running across their body, starting from behind the gills to the tail. They have an interesting, speckled or mottled appearance, which adds to their appeal in aquariums.
These fish are peaceful and do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive species. It's important to ensure the tank is well-maintained with good water quality, regular water changes, and a well-balanced diet to keep these fish healthy and thriving.
