Description

Yellow Banana Hi-Fin Platy is a selectively bred variety of the Xiphophorus variatus species, also known as the Variatus Platy. This particular strain is prized for its vibrant, banana-yellow coloration and dramatically extended dorsal fin, giving it a striking appearance in aquariums.

 Key Features:

  • Color: Bright, solid yellow—hence the "banana" nickname
  • Fin Type: Hi-Fin (or Highfin), meaning the dorsal fin is elongated and sail-like
  • Size: Typically grows up to 5–6 cm (2–2.5 inches)
  • Temperament: Peaceful and social; ideal for community tanks
  • Sexual Dimorphism: Males are usually smaller and more colorful, with a gonopodium (modified anal fin)

 Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons, ideally more for groups
  • Water Conditions:
    • Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
    • pH: 7.0–8.2
    • Hardness: Moderate to hard water
  • Diet: Omnivorous—accepts flakes, pellets, algae wafers, and live/frozen foods
  • Behavior: Active swimmers; do best in groups of 5 or more

 Breeding:

  • Livebearers: Females give birth to live young
  • Prolific Breeders: Can reproduce frequently in stable conditions
  • Fry Care: Provide hiding spots or a breeding box to protect fry from adult fish

This variety is a great choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists due to its hardiness, beauty, and ease of care
