Are you looking for a small schooling fish that isn’t a tetra? The Red Beckford’s Pencil Fish (Nannostomus beckfordi var. “Red”) might be a great pick for you. When settled in, they have a beautiful red colour, and a vivid black stripe. They only grow to a maximum of 1.5″ each, and a school of six is happy in a tank as small as 10 gallons. They’re very peaceful but are major food hogs. For that reason, it’s best to keep them with confident fish, so everyone gets their share at breakfast.
