Scientific Name:
Betta splendens (HMPK variant)

Size:
Up to 6–7 cm (2.5–3 inches)

Lifespan:
2–4 years with proper care

Temperament:
Aggressive and territorial—best housed alone or with carefully selected tank mates

Tank Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 5 gallons (larger preferred for enriched environments)
  • Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F)
  • pH: 6.5–7.5
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
  • Aquascape: Low-flow filtration, gentle lighting, floating plants, caves, and leaf litter for enrichment

Diet:
Carnivorous – thrives on high-protein Betta pellets, frozen/live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia

Behavior:

  • Highly territorial—will flare and fight other males
  • Intelligent and interactive with owners
  • Can be trained to follow fingers or jump for food
  • Should not be housed with fin-nipping or flashy fish

Breeding:

  • Bubble nest builder
  • Requires conditioning with high-protein diet
  • Introduce female carefully; remove post-spawning
  • Male guards eggs and fry
