HMPK Betta Female—a compact, vibrant, and hardy variant of the Betta splendens species, ideal for both solo and community setups under the right conditions:


Species Profile: HMPK Betta Female (Halfmoon Plakat Betta)

Scientific Name:
Betta splendens (HMPK variant)

Size:
Up to 6 cm (2.5 inches)

Lifespan:
2–4 years with proper care

Temperament:
Semi-aggressive; more peaceful than males but still territorial, especially toward other female Bettas

Tank Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 5 gallons (10+ gallons recommended for sorority setups)
  • Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F)
  • pH: 6.5–7.5
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
  • Aquascape: Gentle filtration, low flow, plenty of hiding spots (plants, caves), floating plants for cover

Diet:
Carnivorous – thrives on high-protein foods like Betta pellets, frozen/live bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia

Behavior:

  • Active and curious
  • Can be housed solo or in carefully managed female sororities (5+ individuals with lots of cover)
  • May nip fins of slower tank mates if stressed or crowded

Breeding:

  • Can be bred with HMPK males under controlled conditions
  • Requires conditioning with high-protein diet
  • Males build bubble nests; females lay eggs which males tend

Appearance:

  • Short-finned (Plakat) with a Halfmoon tail spread (180° when flared)
  • Females are less flashy than males but still show vibrant colors and patterns
  • Often used in selective breeding for color and form
