Description

Red Moscow Guppy is a selectively bred variety of Poecilia reticulata, known for its deep, solid red coloration and flowing fins, especially in males. 

Key Traits:

  • Color: Males have a rich, metallic crimson hue from head to tail; females are less vibrant but still red-toned.
  • Size: Males grow to about 1.2–1.6 inches; females are larger, around 1.6–2 inches.
  • Temperament: Peaceful and social.
  • Lifespan: Typically 2–3 years with proper care.
Care Guide for Red Moscow Guppies

 Tank Setup:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a small group; 20+ gallons preferred for stability 
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 72–80°F (22–27°C)
    • pH: 6.5–7.8
    • Hardness: 8–12 dGH
    • Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm; Nitrate: <20 ppm
  • Filtration: Use a sponge or gentle HOB filter to avoid strong currents 
  • Plants: Java Moss, Hornwort, and Anubias provide cover and improve water quality.

 Diet:

  • Staple: High-quality flake or pellet food rich in protein.
  • Supplements: Frozen/live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms enhance color 
  • Vegetables: Blanched spinach or zucchini aid digestion.
  • Feeding Frequency: 2–3 times daily in small portions.

 Breeding:

  • Ratio: 1 male to 2–3 females to reduce stress.
  • Gestation: 25–30 days; females give birth to live fry.
