Endler’s (Male) (Poecilia wingei) is a colorful and hardy species that’s very popular in nano and community aquariums. 

Overview

  • Origin: Venezuela (Laguna de Patos)
  • Size: 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 inches)
  • Lifespan: 2–3 years
  • Temperament: Peaceful, active
  • Ideal Group Size: Keep males in groups or with females (but note they breed readily!)

Tank Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a small group
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
    • pH: 6.5–8.0
    • Hardness: Moderately hard
  • Aquascape: Plants, hiding spots, and open swimming space; they love planted tanks.

Diet

  • Omnivorous: High-quality flakes, micro pellets, and occasional live/frozen foods (brine shrimp, daphnia).

Behavior & Compatibility

  • Peaceful and great for community tanks.
  • Good tank mates: Small tetras, rasboras, corydoras, shrimp.
  • Avoid fin-nippers or large aggressive fish.

Special Features

  • Males are brilliantly colored with metallic greens, oranges, and blacks.
  • They are prolific breeders—if females are present, expect fry regularly.
