Carnegiella myersi, commonly known as the Pygmy Hatchetfish, is a tiny, peaceful, and captivating freshwater species native to the Amazon basin. It's ideal for nano aquariums and softwater community setups. 


Species Overview

  • Scientific Name: Carnegiella myersi
  • Common Names: Pygmy Hatchetfish, Myers Hatchetfish, Dwarf Hatchetfish
  • Family: Gasteropelecidae
  • Origin: Rio Huallaga Basin, Peru; also found in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia 
  • Size: Up to 2.5 cm (1 inch)
  • Lifespan: 3–5 years
  • Temperament: Peaceful, shoaling
  • Difficulty: Moderate
