Description

Pearly Lamprologus, also known as Altolamprologus calvus, is a fascinating cichlid species native to Lake Tanganyika

  • Appearance: They have a unique, laterally compressed body that allows them to squeeze into tight crevices in their rocky habitat Their coloration can vary, but they often display a pearly sheen.
  • Size: They typically grow to about 4.7-5.4 inches (12-14 cm) in length
  • Habitat: They are found in rocky areas around the shores and islands of Lake Tanganyika
  • Tank Requirements: A Lake Tanganyika biotope setup with piles of rocks forming caves is ideal. They prefer dim lighting, which encourages them to be more visible Water conditions should be kept at a temperature of 75-80°F (24-27°C) with a pH of 7.5-9.0
  • Diet: They primarily eat meaty live and frozen foods and are not typically interested in dried foods
  • Behavior: Although territorial, they are generally peaceful towards fish they can't fit into their mouths. They can be shy, so it's best to avoid aggressive tankmates Suitable tankmates include other Tanganyikan cichlids like Julidochromis and Neolamprologus
