Description
Description
Albino Kohaku Wagtail Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii) is a striking and peaceful freshwater fish, selectively bred for its vibrant coloration and ornamental features.
Appearance & Traits
- Coloration: These swordtails feature a white albino base with red-orange patches, inspired by the Kohaku koi pattern. The "Wagtail" designation refers to their bold black tail and fin edges, which contrast beautifully with the body
- Sexual Dimorphism: Males have the signature elongated lower tail fin ("sword"), while females are typically larger and rounder without the sword
- Size: Adults reach about 4 inches (10 cm), with females slightly larger
Tank Requirements
- Tank Size: Minimum 20–30 gallons for a small group; larger tanks recommended for breeding setups
-
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
- pH: 7.0–8.0
- KH: 12–30
- Aquascaping: They appreciate live plants, floating vegetation, and open swimming space. Avoid fin-nipping tank mates
Diet

Omnivorous: Feed a varied diet including:
- High-quality vegetable and protein-based flakes
- Sinking micro pellets
- Frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia
