Sparkled Blue Medaka is a premium, selectively bred Japanese rice fish prized for its metallic silver‑blue “sparkled” scaling and calm, elegant swimming style. This medium‑grade Aquarium Glaser import originates from refined Miyuki‑type breeding lines and is ideal for planted aquariums, nano communities, and even outdoor tubs in mild climates.

Appearance & Genetics

“Sparkled” Medaka are characterized by scattered, intensely reflective silver‑white scales. In the Sparkled Blue strain:

• The fish do not have a blue base body color
• The blue effect comes from blue‑white reflective pigmentation of:
  • The peritoneum (body lining)
  • Fin margins
  • Sometimes a faint blue‑white dorsal sheen
• This line is also marketed under the name Miyuki in Japan and Europe 

Medium‑grade fish show strong sparkle and clean body form, but with slightly less uniform dorsal striping than high‑grade Japanese show specimens—making them excellent value display fish.

Behavior & Display

• Schooling: Yes — best kept in groups of 6–10+

• Activity: Calm, graceful, constantly visible

Unlike many nano fish, Medaka remain active and confident even in open, lightly planted aquariums, making them excellent “top‑layer” fish.

Water Parameters

Medaka are famously adaptable:

• Temperature: 18–26 °C (65–79 °F)
  • Can tolerate cooler water than most tropical fish
• pH: 6.5–8.0
• Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
• Flow: Low to moderate 

 They thrive in planted tanks, ripariums, and outdoor tubs (seasonal).

Secure lid recommended — Medaka can jump.

Diet

Omnivorous and very easy to feed:

• High‑quality nano flakes or micro pellets
• Baby brine shrimp
• Daphnia, cyclops
• Crushed frozen foods

A varied diet enhances sparkle intensity and fin clarity.

Compatibility

Excellent tankmates:

• Corydoras (including pygmy types)
• Small rasboras
• White cloud minnows
• Amano & Neocaridina shrimp (with plants)

Avoid:

• Aggressive or fast‑hogging feeders
• Fin‑nipping species

Medaka are exceptionally shrimp‑safe and ideal for peaceful aquascapes.

Breeding Notes

• Very easy to breed
• Egg layers; females may carry eggs briefly before depositing them
• Eggs hatch in ~7–14 days depending on temperature
• Separate adults or provide dense plants for fry survival
