Description

Pink Comet Swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri) is a stunning and peaceful freshwater fish known for its vibrant coloration and elegant tail. 


Appearance

  • Features a pearly pink body with orange fins and black streaks along the tail, especially prominent in males
  • Males have a distinctive elongated lower tail fin resembling a sword, which gives the species its name 
  • Grows up to 4 inches in length.

Care Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons recommended due to their active nature 
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 64–82°F (18–28°C)
    • pH: 7.0–8.3
    • KH: 12–30
    • GH: 8–16
  • Diet: Omnivorous — enjoys flakes, pellets, and live/frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia 
  • Tank Setup: Provide vegetation, open swimming space, and a secure lid (they may jump).

Temperament

  • Generally peaceful, making them ideal for community tanks.
  • Males may show territorial behavior, so monitor aggression and consider a 1:2 male-to-female ratio.

Lifespan & Breeding
