Description

Pearl Gourami (Trichopodus leerii) is a beautiful and hardy freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia, including countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. 

  • Appearance: They are known for their distinctive white, pearl-like spots covering their bodies and a black horizontal stripe running from their mouth to their tail Males are typically more colorful, with a red-orange breast spot
  • Size: They usually grow to about 4-5 inches in length.
  • Lifespan: With proper care, they can live around 4-5 years
  • Tank Requirements: They thrive in tanks with a temperature range of 75-86°F and a pH of 6.5-8.0 They prefer well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots
  • Diet: Pearl Gouramis are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet of flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods
  • Behavior: They are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish They are labyrinth fish, meaning they can breathe air from the surface.

The pearl gourami is a hardy and attractive choice for your centerpiece fish.  Just like bettas (their distant cousins) they build bubble nests and have a labyrinth organ. They’re tropical omnivorous fish, and are known to occasionally vocalize, making growling or croaking noises!
