Description

Moenkhausia cosmops, also known as Bario cosmops, is a small, vividly colored freshwater tetra native to Brazil. 


Species Overview

  • Scientific Name: Moenkhausia cosmops (now often classified under Bario cosmops)
  • Family: Characidae (Tetras)
  • Origin: Tributaries of the upper Rio Sepotuba (Paraguai basin) and Rio Juruena (Tapajós basin), Brazil

Size & Lifespan

  • Average Size: 4–5.4 cm (1.6–2.1 inches)
  • Max Size: ~6 cm
  • Lifespan: Estimated 3–5 years in captivity
