- pH: 6.0-7.5
- Temperament: Peaceful, community-safe
- Best kept in groups of 8 or more.
- Appreciates planted aquariums with open swimming space.
- Shows best coloration in darker substrates and subdued lighting.
- Readily accepts flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, and live foods.
Compatibility
Good tankmates include:
- Corydoras
- Pencilfish
- Hatchetfish
- Dwarf cichlids
- Other peaceful tetras and rasboras
Its calm nature makes it well suited for planted community aquariums.
For an aquarium store, the Junior Tetra is a great alternative to more common tetras because:
- It stays relatively small.
- The red-finned males stand out in display tanks.
- It remains less common than Cardinals, Rummynose, or Black Neons.
- Works well in both beginner and enthusiast planted-tank setups.
Many hobbyists consider it an underrated species that colors up dramatically once settled into a planted aquarium.
