Description

Dwarf Synodontis Catfish (Microsynodontis batesii) is a captivating freshwater species found in the Ntem River of Gabon and Cameroon. 

  1. Appearance:

    • It grows to a maximum length of approximately 3.5 inches (8.75 cm).
    • The rounded or slightly forked caudal fin distinguishes it from other catfish genera.
  2. Habitat and Tank Setup:

    • Prefers a soft substrate and a lightly planted tank with driftwood for hiding spots.
    • Lighting should be dim.
    • Plants are appreciated but not essential.
  3. Water Conditions:

    • Temperature: 71-79°F (22-26°C)
    • pH: 6.7-7.5
    • Hardness: 10-15 dH
  4. Tank Mates:

    • Gets along well with peaceful species such as African tetras and dwarf cichlids.
    • Avoid aggressive or very vigorous fish, as it is quite shy.
    • Can be kept in groups with no problems.
  5. Sexual Dimorphism:

    • Adult males have an elongated caudal fin and small bristles covering the body.
    • Difficult to sex due to their small size, but males have a thinner and more pointed genital papilla.
