Description

Corydoras sodalis, commonly known as the False Network Cory, is a peaceful and attractive bottom-dwelling freshwater fish from the Amazon River basin in Peru and Brazil. 


Basic Profile

  • Scientific Name: Corydoras sodalis
  • Common Name: False Network Cory
  • Size: Up to 2 inches (5 cm)
  • Lifespan: Typically 5+ years with proper care
  • Temperament: Peaceful, social, and best kept in groups of 5 or more 

Origin & Habitat

  • Found in streams, creeks, and flooded forests of the Amazon basin, especially in Loreto (Peru) and Amazonas (Brazil) 
  • Prefers soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with subdued lighting and plenty of hiding spots

Tank Setup

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons for a small group
  • Substrate: Fine sand or smooth gravel to protect their sensitive barbels 
  • Decor: Driftwood, leaf litter, caves, and low-light plants or floating plants for shade
  • Filtration: Gentle flow; avoid strong currents 

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 22–26°C (72–79°F)
  • pH: 6.3–7.2
  • Hardness: 10–20°N (178–357 ppm)

Diet

  • Omnivorous bottom feeders
  • Feed sinking pellets, algae wafers, and supplement with:
