Bronze Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus) is a peaceful, bottom-dwelling freshwater catfish beloved by aquarists for its hardy nature and charming behavior.

  • Common Names: Bronze Cory, Green Cory, Bronze Catfish
  • Family: Callichthyidae
  • Size: Up to 2.5 inches (6–7 cm)
  • Lifespan: 5–10 years
  • Temperament: Peaceful, social, and shy 

Natural Habitat

  • Distribution: Widely found across South America, including Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago 
  • Environment: Prefers slow-moving rivers, muddy substrates, and shallow waters. Can survive in low-oxygen environments by gulping air at the surface 

Appearance

  • Body: Bronze to greenish sheen, sometimes with albino or black variants
  • Armor: Covered in bony plates (scutes)
  • Fins: Transparent with possible orange or reddish tint
  • Sexual Dimorphism: Females are larger and rounder, especially when gravid
