Description
Description
Blue Neon Goby (Stiphodon atropurpureus) is a stunning and relatively rare freshwater fish, known for its vibrant blue coloration and peaceful nature. Here are some key points about them:
- Appearance: They have a striking neon blue color with maroon overtones, and males often display more intense colors than females
- Size: They typically grow up to about 5 cm (around 2 inches)
- Habitat: In the wild, they are found in fast-flowing streams and rivers in the Western Pacific region, including Micronesia, Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia
- Tank Requirements: They thrive in well-oxygenated, densely planted nano or community aquariums with smooth substrates and rocks for hiding and grazing. A tank size of at least 10 gallons is recommended.
- Diet: They are natural aufwuchs grazers, feeding on microorganisms, algae, and biofilm. In an aquarium, they can be fed high-quality flake food, micro-pellets, and live or frozen foods
- Behavior: Blue Neon Gobies are peaceful and do well with other small, non-aggressive fish like White Cloud Mountain Minnows, Neon Green Rasboras, and Dwarf Shrimp
These fish are a great addition to a community tank, especially for those who appreciate their unique beauty and peaceful demeanor.
