CW009 Neon Green Cory (Corydoras sp. CW009) Small -Aquarium Glaser

Description

 CW009 Neon Green Cory

Common names:

  • Green Laser Cory
  • Neon Green Stripe Cory
  • Peru Green Stripe Cory

Scientific designation:

  • Corydoras sp. CW009
  • Often grouped within the Osteogaster / Corydoras aeneus complex (taxonomy still debated)

Identification

  • Brilliant metallic neon‑green “laser” stripe running from the head to the caudal peduncle
  • Olive‑gold body with reflective sheen
  • Armored plates (no scales)
  • Typical Corydoras barbels for substrate sifting

This fish is easily one of the flashiest Corydoras available, especially under subdued lighting.

Origin

  • Country: Peru
  • River systems: Río Ucayali & Río Marañón (Amazon headwaters)
  • Slow‑moving, soft‑water river margins with sandy bottoms

Size & Lifespan

  • Adult size: ~6–7.5 cm (2.5–3 in)
  • Lifespan: 8–12+ years with proper care

Water Parameters

Parameter Ideal Range
Temperature 22–28 °C (72–82 °F)
pH 6.0–7.5
Hardness Soft to medium (up to ~12–15 dGH)
Flow Gentle to moderate

Stable, clean water is more important than chasing exact numbers.

Tank Setup

  • Minimum tank: 20 gal (larger strongly recommended)
  • Group size: 6+ (shoaling species)
  • Substrate: Fine sand (critical to protect barbels)
  • Décor: Driftwood, leaf litter, smooth rocks, shaded areas
  • Lighting: Medium–low (enhances green coloration)

Corydoras regularly surface to gulp air—this is normal behavior

Diet

Omnivore, must be fed intentionally

  • Sinking pellets / wafers
  • Frozen or live bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia
  • Will not survive on leftovers alone

They are enthusiastic but slow feeders, spread food across the substrate for best results.

Temperament & Tankmates
  • Extremely peaceful
  • Excellent community fish

Compatible with:
Tetras, rasboras, livebearers, dwarf cichlids, other Corydoras

Avoid:
Aggressive fish, sharp gravel, fin‑nippers

Displays best color and confidence in larger groups.

Breeding Notes

  • Successfully bred in captivity
  • Triggered by:
    • Cooler water changes
    • High oxygen
  • Classic Corydoras “T‑position” spawning behavior
  • Adhesive eggs deposited on glass or plants

 Why CW009 Is Special

  • One of the brightest colored Corydoras ever imported
