Red Racer Nerite Snail, scientifically known as Vittina waigiensis, is a striking and beneficial addition to any aquarium. Here are some key points about this fascinating snail:

Appearance

  • Size: They grow to about 1.2 inches (3 cm) in diameter.
  • Color: Known for their vibrant red and black striped shells, which resemble racing stripes.

Habitat and Care

  • Tank Size: A minimum of 3 gallons is recommended, but larger tanks are better for more stable conditions.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 71.6°F – 87.8°F (22°C – 28°C)
    • pH: 6.5 – 8.0 (preferably above 7.0 to prevent shell deterioration)
    • KH: 2 – 12 dKH
  • Diet: Primarily algae eaters, they help keep the tank clean. They can also be fed algae wafers, sinking pellets, or blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini.

Breeding

  • Breeding: They do not breed in freshwater. Eggs require brackish or saltwater to hatch.

Lifespan

  • Lifespan: Typically live for about 3-4 years

These snails are peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive tank mates, making them a great choice for community tanks. They are also known to be escape artists, so a tight-fitting lid is essential
