Description

Salween Rock Catfish (Erethistes filamentosus) is a fascinating and unique species native to the fast-flowing streams of Southeast Asia, particularly the Salween River Basin. 

  • Appearance: They have a distinctive flattened body shape with delicate filaments, and their coloration ranges from dark chestnut brown to light chocolate brown with a mottled pattern
  • Size: They grow up to about 2 inches (5 cm) in length
  • Habitat: In the wild, they inhabit fast-flowing streams with plenty of rocks, driftwood, and leaf litter
  • Tank Setup: They thrive in aquariums with a sandy substrate, smooth rocks, driftwood, and caves to mimic their natural habitat. They prefer moderate to strong water flow and subdued lighting
  • Water Conditions: Ideal water temperature is between 72°F to 79°F, with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5
  • Diet: They are omnivorous and can be fed sinking pellets, live or frozen foods like bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter
  • Behavior: They are peaceful and non-aggressive, making them suitable for community tanks. However, they can be shy and may retreat to hiding spots
