Imbellis Betta
Description
Description
Betta imbellis, also known as the Peaceful Betta or the Crescent Betta, is a type of betta fish that has different care requirements compared to the more commonly known Betta splendens (Siamese Fighting Fish). Here are the temperature and tank size requirements for Betta imbellis:
-
Temperature: Betta imbellis prefer a tropical temperature range similar to other bettas. Ideally, maintain the water temperature between 78 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit (25 to 28 degrees Celsius). Using a heater in your aquarium can help you maintain a consistent temperature.
-
Minimum Tank Size: Betta imbellis are relatively smaller than Betta splendens but still need a suitable habitat. It's recommended to keep Betta imbellis in a tank that has a minimum capacity of 5 gallons (about 19 liters) or larger. A larger tank provides more swimming space and better water quality.
Tank Details:
- Filtration: Use a gentle filtration system with a low flow rate to avoid stressing the betta. A sponge filter or an adjustable flow filter is a good choice.
- Decor: Provide plenty of hiding spots, such as live or artificial plants, caves, and driftwood. Betta imbellis like to have hiding places in their tank.
- Substrate: Use a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel, which won't harm their delicate fins.
- Water Quality: Maintain good water quality by performing regular water changes (approximately 25% every 1-2 weeks). Betta imbellis are sensitive to water parameters, so monitoring ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels is crucial.
- Tankmates: Betta imbellis are generally less aggressive than Betta splendens but can still be territorial. It's best to keep them with peaceful tankmates such as small, non-aggressive fish like small tetras, rasboras, or shrimp. Avoid housing them with other bettas or aggressive species.
Remember that individual bettas can have varying temperaments, so it's essential to monitor their behavior and make adjustments to their tank and tankmates as needed. Providing a well-maintained and appropriately sized tank with the right conditions will help keep your Betta imbellis healthy and happy.
