Striped Kribensis (Pelvicachromis taeniatus "Kienke") 3-5cm Aquarium Glaser

Description

Pelvicachromis taeniatus "Kienke" Striped Kribensis, is a beautiful and colorful dwarf cichlid from West Africa. Here are some key details about this species:

Appearance: The "Kienke" variant is known for its vibrant colors, with males displaying a mix of yellow, red, and blue hues, and females showing a characteristic pink flush on their flanks when ready to spawn.
Size: Males can grow up to 8 cm (3.2 inches), while females are slightly smaller, reaching up to 6 cm (2.4 inches).
Habitat: They are found in still and slow-moving forest streams and rivers, often heavily vegetated.
Tank Requirements: They thrive in aquariums with plenty of hiding places and potential spawning sites, such as clay pots, caves, roots, and driftwood. A sand or fine gravel substrate is ideal as they excavate pits when breeding.
Water Conditions: Prefer temperatures between 72°F to 79°F (22°C to 26°C), a pH of 5.0 to 7.5, and water hardness of 5-12°H.
Diet: Omnivorous, they will accept most foods offered, but live and frozen varieties should form the bulk of their diet.
Behavior: Generally peaceful but can become territorial when breeding. Suitable tank mates include small characins, barbs, danios, rasboras, Corydoras, gouramis, and Loricariids.
Breeding: Relatively easy to breed, they are cave spawners and form monogamous pairs. The female tends to the eggs while the male defends the territory¹.

These fish are relatively easy to care for and make a colorful addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
