Yellow Vampire Crab

Description

The Yellow Vampire Crab (Geosesarma hagen) is a unique and fascinating freshwater crab species that is popular among aquarium enthusiasts.

1. Temperature: The Yellow Vampire Crab thrives in a tropical environment with a recommended temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C).

2. Minimum Size Tank: A minimum tank size of 5 gallons is suitable for a small group of Yellow Vampire Crabs. However, a larger tank with more hiding spaces and climbing areas is ideal.

Feeding Habits: Yellow Vampire Crabs are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet. They consume high-quality crab pellets, algae wafers, and sinking pellets. Supplement their diet with small live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and chopped vegetables.

Habitat Preference: These crabs are native to the freshwater swamps and land areas of Indonesia. Provide a well-landscaped aquarium with both aquatic and terrestrial areas. Use a mix of sand and coconut fiber substrate.

Water pH Level: Maintain a slightly acidic to neutral pH level between 6.5 and 7.5 for optimal health.

Behavior: Yellow Vampire Crabs are known for their active and curious behavior. They enjoy climbing, burrowing, and exploring their surroundings. Provide driftwood, rocks, and plants to create a diverse environment.

Social Structure: While not strictly shoaling, Yellow Vampire Crabs are social and can be kept in small groups. Ensure there are enough hiding spots to prevent aggression.

Activity Time: These crabs are primarily nocturnal, displaying heightened activity during the night. Provide low-intensity lighting to observe their natural behaviors.

Preferred Dwelling: Yellow Vampire Crabs are predominantly bottom dwellers. They spend a significant amount of time on the substrate and also appreciate climbing structures.

Coloration: As the name suggests, Yellow Vampire Crabs showcase vibrant yellow coloration, with subtle variations among individuals. Their striking appearance adds a unique charm to any aquarium.

Additional Notes: Maintain a secure lid on the tank, as these crabs are known to climb. Also, ensure a tightly sealed enclosure to prevent escapes, as they are semi-terrestrial and require access to both land and water.
