Description
Description
Two Stripe Lyretail Killifish (Aphyosemion bivittatum) is a beautiful and fascinating freshwater fish known for its vibrant colors and peaceful nature.
- Appearance: They have elongated bodies with two dark bands made up of red spots running along each side. Males are more colorful with elaborate fin extensions.
- Size: They typically grow up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length.
- Diet: Omnivorous, they enjoy a mix of flake, granules, and small frozen foods like mosquito larvae, daphnia, and brine shrimp.
- Habitat: Native to rivers in southeastern Nigeria and southwestern Cameroon, they prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a pH of 5.5-7.0 and temperatures between 21-26°C (70-79°F)
- Breeding: They require a separate softwater spawning tank with dense clumps of Java moss or spawning mops. Eggs are incubated in damp peat moss for 14-21 days before hatching.
These fish are best kept in well-furnished aquariums with plenty of plants and bogwood to mimic their natural habitat. They can be shy at feeding times, so it's important to ensure they get their fair share of food
