Tiger Shrimp (Neocaridina)

Description

Neocaridina shrimp, including the Tiger Shrimp variant, are popular in the aquarium hobby due to their vibrant colors and relatively easy care.

  1. Temperature: They thrive in a temperature range of 64 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 24 degrees Celsius).
  2. Minimum Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 5 gallons is often recommended for a small group of Neocaridina shrimp.

Feeding Habits: Tiger Shrimp are omnivores and primarily feed on biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter. They can also be supplemented with high-quality shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini, and occasionally small live or frozen foods like daphnia or brine shrimp.

Habitat Preference: They prefer a well-established aquarium with hiding places like driftwood, rocks, and live plants. A substrate with some hiding spots and surfaces for algae growth is beneficial.

Water pH Level: They prefer slightly alkaline water with a pH range between 6.5 and 7.5.

Behavior: Tiger Shrimp are generally peaceful and non-aggressive. They spend a significant amount of time foraging for food and exploring their surroundings.
Multiple shrimp in the tank is recommended for their well-being.
Tiger Shrimp are bottom-dwelling creatures and spend a significant amount of time foraging on the substrate.

Color: Tiger Shrimp are named for their distinctive striped or spotted patterns, which can range from orange to deep blue or black, depending on the variant.

Other Details: It's important to provide stable water parameters, avoid sudden changes, and maintain good water quality. Regular water changes are essential, and the use of a water conditioner is recommended.

Remember that specific care requirements might vary slightly based on the exact variant of Neocaridina shrimp you have, as different color morphs may have slightly different preferences. Always research the specific needs of the variant you are keeping.
